Teaming Up Tableau with Digital Agents

Even in a world where data is everything, we still have a long way to go. The UK Business Data Survey (2022) reported that only 26% of businesses agreed their data was “interoperable”, referring to the ability to accurately interpret data that is exchanged between different systems. With the average enterprise now managing 897 applications (MuleSoft, 2025) and data landscapes growing more and more complex – you can see how this might start to create some barriers. These barriers take the shape of overlooked crucial insights, untrusted and fragmented data and overwhelmed analysts.

Unsurprisingly, Salesforce is tackling these challenges head-on by combining Tableau with the power of their rapidly evolving Agentforce technology. This suite of autonomous AI agents forms the basis of an exciting new era of what Salesforce coins ‘digital labour’, so it makes sense that we should be able to employ these new digital workers to make data interpretation, understanding, and application even easier for our teams.

This digital Tableau Agent is available now in Tableau Cloud under the Tableau Plus license model, with all of the functionality set to be available by June 2025. Excitingly, both private (internal) and public Marketplaces for community members to build their own AI analytical applications to be monetised are also planned to be released in Autumn for Tableau Plus.

Like we have seen with Salesforce’s other out-of-the-box agents, Tableau agents have pre-built skills or ‘Actions’ such as:

    • Data Pro – helping to prepare and visualise data
    • Concierge – providing a trustworthy Q&A service, a personal assistant for users gathering and summarising data and insights
    • Inspector – delivering proactive insights on patterns and trends without monitoring or management

These skills are an excellent example of how Salesforce’s vision for the future of business, ‘agents working with agents’, is quickly becoming a reality. If we pair the capabilities of a data analyst-type agent with Sales and Service agents for example, think of the opportunities that will be created. If Tableau or ‘data’ agents are able to detect an s-curve trend, perhaps for example a product is suddenly getting a high rate of engagement due to a successful marketing campaign, then a customer-facing agent could use that information to upsell the product whilst engaging with buyers on all relevant channels. The more the Agentforce universe expands, the more we can get a glimpse into what is possible when we unite the skills (or actions) of these versatile agents.

Underpinned by the Atlas Reasoning Enginge and the Einstein Trust Layer, Agents in Tableau will give users a new level of clarity, all whilst keeping their data watertight. Not everyone who interacts with data is a Data Scientist, and even highly skilled data professionals might benefit from a conversational, natural language AI expert who can answer their questions, provide context and hypothesise trends in an instant. And Tableau is not just limited to Salesforce data. Any data, be it structured or unstructured, can be leveraged, visualised, interpreted, explained and applied by these agentic digital agents. This further enhances that ‘360 degree’ view of the customer (and our businesses) that has made Salesforce such a success.

Different AI is good at different tasks, just like humans! And if we train and nurture our digital workforce, our AI agents, to collaborate and enhance our organisations, we will be able to achieve heights of productivity and rates of growth currently untouched by business as we know it. Make the Best Decisions for Your Business With Tableau

First of all, what is tableau?

Tableau is the leading data visualisation and analytics platform that was acquired by Salesforce and integrates seamlessly with your CRM system, as well as every other piece of software in your business. But what does that really mean?

Tableau takes your raw data from all areas of your business and turns it into actionable insights via its intuitive interfaces and easy-to-use features. This means your data can quickly and easily drive decision making by highlighting the areas you should be focusing on, and the exact issues that need addressing such as overstretched resources or underperforming sales. With Tableau, anyone in your business can understand, interpret and leverage crucial data.

    Core Offerings

Tableau offers a range of products to cater to different business needs:

Tableau Desktop: This is Tableau’s core product that creates your interactive reports and dashboards. Through this base product you can quickly and easily connect your data sources to perform analyses, build visual dashboards and custom build your interface via drag and drop features. We can further customise this product for you to ensure it is tailored specifically for your use case.

Tableau Server: This feature enables you to share and manage reports and dashboards across your organisation, helping teams work together seamlessly. This can be hosted via the cloud or on your premises.

Tableau Online: This is essentially the fully cloud based version of Tableau server (hosted by Tableau) and offers you the same functionality without the need for your own infrastructure.

Tableau Prep: This is the simple tool to clean data, reshape it and combine it. This is a great tool to prepare your data before feeding it into Tableau Desktop.

Tableau Public: This free version allows you to share visualisations online which is ideal for individuals or small organisations.

Tableau CRM: This is where you integrate Tableau with Salesforce… the best part! This will deliver insights into your customers data with machine learning and AI to assist and provide predictive analytics.

    Why Tableau?

Businesses often have tons of data but they can’t pool it together to gain a meaningful 360 view of their business. Use Tableau to make fast, informed decisions with visualisations and suggested actions.

This dynamic data visualisation software presents information in unique and convenient ways to help you understand how your business is succeeding (and where it could use a boost!). It provides your team with a real-time single-source-of-truth, where your colleagues can collaborate to build complex visuals in minutes – helping them respond to business challenges. Customisable dashboards allow you to see exactly what you need to see when you need to see it. These dashboards can track performance, monitor trends, visualise key metrics and all in an easy to understand format. Tableau scales easily with you, and saves serious amounts of money when you invest in the infrastructure early and build on it throughout your growth. We always recommend starting small and increasing your usage as your business grows.

In summary, if you want to unlock the full potential of your data, Tableau is the tool for you. Tableau makes data analysis a fast and easy task to help you evolve and react with your business so you get ahead of the curve – and your competition!
